Information for when making a claim

We'll need some details from you

To help us process your claim, please have the following information ready:

  • Policy number
  • Details of the events leading to the claim (who, where, how)
  • An estimate of the loss or damage
  • GST details (e.g. ABN)

Damage to Property

Proof of ownership and Loss:

When you make a claim you may be required to provide proof of ownership and proof of the value of the items you are claiming for.  This information helps us understand what items you had, and enables us to replace the item or work out the correct payment amount for you.

Some examples of proof of ownership include:

  • Sales receipts or accounts (originals or duplicates) showing the date, purchase price, a description of items purchased and place of purchase
  • Credit card statements or bank statements showing the transaction details
  • Owner’s manuals or instruction manuals providing the model and serial number/s of the lost or damaged property
  • Warranties noting the item and payment figure
  • Valuations
  • Photos clearly showing the loss or damaged items
  • Builder’s, electrician’s or other relevant tradesman reports detailing the loss or damage
  • Letter from the original supplier/purchaser on a verified letterhead
  • Australian Taxation Office submission, showing depreciation schedule of item
  • Statement from your accountant
  • Statutory Declaration (as a last resort)

Make your damaged property available:

If requested you must make your damaged property available for inspection by us or a representative of ours and, if we require, deliver the items which have been damaged to us.

Loss of rent claims

We may request the following documents from you or your property manager

  • Copy of the Lease Agreement
  • Copy of tenant Rental History Ledger
  • Copy of Property Inspection reports: Entry-Exit (if property damage costs are incurred)
  • Copy of any Notices Issued
  • Copy of Application for Tenancy
  • Breakdown of Bond Deductions (invoices)

Liability Claims

If you receive notification of any claim made against you, you should promptly forward any demand, writ, summons or proceedings which you receive relating to any prosecution, inquest or hearing and all other information relevant to those matters where any liability under this policy may arise.

Do not:

  • admit responsibility or liability to anyone
  • offer, agree or promise to settle any claim without our consent
  • reply to a written complaint without notifying us first
